Jon got through the rest of the day mostly without incident, but she couldn't shake the feeling that something bad had happened. Even her fur was on end, an altogether new sensation for her. She fidgeted all the way through the bus ride home, then dashed out of the bus towards her house, followed closely by Karyn.
"Welcome home, sweetie!" her mother called. "What did the nurse-" But Jon dashed right past, not stopping until she got to the door of her room. It looked almost as it had when she left it - there was a basket of neatly-folded laundry on the bed, and on the dresser was...no stone.
Jon looked again. No stone. She looked on the floor around the dresser. No stone. Then she looked under the dreser. Still no stone. Next she looked under every object on the dresser. Nope. Then her mom burst into the room, followed by Karyn, and Jon was struck with a horrible thought.
"Mom," she said, "There was a smallish rock on my dresser..."
"Yes," her mom scolded. "I threw it out just before the garbage pick-up. Honestly, ho many times have I told you not to leave junklaying around like that?"
Jon sank to her knees and began to cry. Her mom's expression softened. "It wasn't important, was it?" she asked.
"I've Got A Bad Feeling About This..."
