At once, Doris the cleaning woman suddenly felt new information being placed in her head. She knew now just where the furniture in this room came from. The couch was once a girl named Karyn, but the men who had kidnapped her wished her into a couch. An accidental wish transformed the kidnappers into the rest of the furniture.
And it was the stone Doris was now holding that had granted these wishes.
Doris stared at the stone for quite a while. Clearly this thing was dangerous. The wrong wish could lead to disastrous results. And if it fell into the wrong hands...well, it already had. The couch was proof of that.
Doris was not entirely happy with her job cleaning the apartment building. She had often wished that she could find something better. Maybe a better job, with better pay. Or something.
Perhaps this stone could give her everything she had always wanted. But she knew she had to be careful with it. She still didn't know where the stone had come from, or what its limitations were. She didn't know if she'd be able to change anyone back. Karyn and her kidnappers might be stuck as furniture forever.
She wondered what her first wish, if any, would be.
