"Daddy?"
The man just giggled, and looked confused. "I'm not Daddy, silly," he said as he gently tugged at the hem of the dress that he now wore. It was identical to his daughter's, white with yellow flowers, but fitted perfectly for his adult frame. He wore white mary-janes and knee socks too, and his hair was now long, blonde and curly, hanging down to the middle of his back.
The girl was confused. What had happened to her dad? Was he playing some kind of game? Maybe she should play along.
"I like your dress, daddy!" she said.
"Why do you keep saying daddy? We're Vanessa."
"Hey!" Jon interrupted, "You girls need to give that back. It's not a toy!"
Vanessa looked at the gun in her hand, then at her father. Was this what made her dad wear a dress like hers? Maybe he'd be more fun this way, she never could get him to come to her tea parties. She looked at the two teenagers.
"Well, I found it," she and her father said in unison.
"It's not nice to take things that aren't yours. Where are your parents?"
The man spoke up. "Mommy went into a store for grown up ladies, and daddy was gonna get us some ice cream." He looked at his daughter. "Where is daddy?" he asked her.
"I don't know," Vanessa said coyly, thinking her father was joking around.
Jon and Karyn looked at each other. "What do we do?" Karyn asked under her breath.
Jon sighed and looked over at what, to him, were two practically identical little girls. "Listen," he said, "I don't want to be mean, but you need to give that back."
"No!" Vanessa said, more defiantly this time.
"I'm not going to ask you again. Give it here!" Jon took a step forward, and Vanessa a step back. Karyn began approaching as well. Vanessa was beginning to get frightened. She looked at the gun that this boy was after. If it made her father more fun then maybe...
"Wait... dont-" before Jon could even reach for the gun, Vanessa pulled the trigger and a blinding light engulfed him and Karyn.
